Representing the work of Wintec students in journalism, photography and graphic design and their lecturers, Baches of Raglan has been in the making for over a year. The outstanding photography and interesting stories gel together to create an easy, informative read about the Raglan bach culture. The book has been partly sponsored by grants from the Waikato District Council, WEL Networks, Lugton Real Estate, the Gallagher Charitable Trust, architects Chow:Hill, the Sir John Logan Campbell Residuary Estate, Perry Foundation, Sky City Foundation and Waikato Community Trust. Chairman of Wintec, Gordon Chesterman said, "Twenty five baches and stories about their current owners provide the focus for the book. "Many of these baches were built in the boom years of the 50's and 60's when thousands of Kiwis invested 'in a bit of land by the sea'." They are baches, according to Mr Chesterman, where their owners have no interest in granite bench tops, polished concrete floors and tinted glass. "The book tells the stories of people who have 'a place at the beach and an affection for simple life," he said. The 120 page book boasts 90 colour photographs, Illustrated light card covers with French flap to rear.
