Hardback in very good condition. Grey cloth boards with bevelled edges. A little fading to top part of front cover, minor rubbing and bumping at extremities. Bright gilt design & titles to front cover and spine. No inscriptions, scattered foxing throughout, mainly to first and last few pages and edges, minor chipping to edges.

"The War in the North" was originally issued separately. "Old New Zealand" was first published at London in 1863. Frederick Edward Maning (5 July 1812 25 July 1883) was an early settler in New Zealand, a writer, and a judge of the Native Land Court. He published two books under the pseudonym of "a Pakeha Maori." Maning arrived in the Hokianga area at age 22, on 30 June 1833, and lived among the Ngapuhi Maori. He took a Maori wife, Moengaroa, of Te Hikutu hapu; of Ngapuhi, and they had four children.
