This is a critical analysis of the famous espionage trial by William Allen Jowitt, 1st Earl Jowitt, a former British Lord High Chancellor. Jowitt examined the evidence with a detached, legal approach, ultimately arguing that the case against Hiss was not sufficient to warrant conviction by British standards.
 It features a detailed legal review, including appendices and photographs, arguing that the evidence did not prove Hiss was a Soviet agent, contrary to the American verdict.
The book remains a significant, albeit controversial, legal critique of the Hiss-Chambers case.
