Good hardback, no jacket. Beige/Grey cloth boards are faded on spine and at top edge, edges rubbed and bumped, a few light marks. Inscription inside front board, abrasions and chipping with some tiny holes to ffep. Pages very good with a little foxing, mainly to edges, minor marks. Binding firm.

Son of Mary Ecclesia Chudleigh (née Lyne) and Nicholas Ford Chudleigh. Born in St Columb, Cornwall, he sailed to NZ in 1861. He worked on Springs Station and Mt Peel Station, South Canterbury. (Samuel Butler association aged 19 in 1861, son of Cornish rector). Married Mabel Potts 20 June 1881; no children. Went to Wharekauri, Chatham Islands, in 1866 and farmed there until 1909. Settled in Waikato in 1909. Left farm to brother's family. He and his wife are buried in the graveyard of the Church of the Holy Innocents, Mount Peel Station. Chapters two to ten provide coverage of farming work (mustering, droving etc) for Mt Peel Station, before he moved on to establish a run on the Chathams. Emily and Tom Acland, Bully Hayes and Samuel Butler are mentioned in the chapter titles of chapters seven, eight, and ten. Many other names mentioned in other chapter titles.
