This dramatised and historically correct history follows the Crawford family from the defeat of "Bonnie Prince Charlie" at the battle of Culloden in 1746, through the Highland Clearances, the famines and the great Disruption in the Scottish Church, to their emigration to Otago on the Philip Laing in 1848. It is a history of the courage and determination displayed by the Scottish forbears of all the early settler families who left their country to give us ours. An appendix records the names and ages of the passengers who immigrated on all twenty ships of The New Zealand Company, as recently compiled by John MacGibbon.
