Sir David Hunt's wartime career as an Intelligence Staff Officer. In 1945, Col. Hunt became head of the Historical Section of the Central Mediterranean Forces in charge of production of the Official History. The author draws on his experiences in the desert, Greece and Crete. When A Don at War was published in 1966 it was hailed as the first book to be written from the point of view of the Intelligence staff officer in the field with critics remarking on Sir David Hunt's authoritative exposition of British as well as German strategies.
