Mountain Farm - Bush Farm records the impressions of people who lived, grew up, worked on, were neighbours of or simply visited Kairuru - the Henderson family Erewhon, set high on the Takaka Hills. These frank and illuminating reminiscences were initially compiled on the occasion of 'Gran' Henderson's eightieth birthday. The final chapter records the pioneering life of a just-married couple (pictured left) who, in 1916, exchanged factory work in the north of England for 1600 acres of virgin bush on the South Island's West Coast. A life-long scribbler, war veteran and broadcaster, Jim Henderson joined the Radio Pacific family when his mate Barn' 'Bush Telegraph' Crump called a break, saying: "Jim's the man." And so Jim's long-running (1961-I5 )) National Radio session, Open Country, continued on Pacific until a few years back when Old Man Time said, "Enough!" Jim remains an avid Pacific listener at home on the slopes of Auckland's One Tree Hill - still in love with the Takaka Hills of his youth.
