Very good Hardbacks with jackets, maroon boards with gilt titles to spine, a little compression to spine ends, previous owner's name label inside front board and to title page, minor marks, otherwise pages are very good. Jackets have light edge-wear and fading to spines. Vol 2 has a small tear on spine.

Ernest/Ernst Dieffenbach was the first trained scientist to live and work in New Zealand. This was the first edition of his travel work which explains his travels under the auspices of the New Zealand Company. Dieffenbach was one of the first Europeans to visit the Rotomahana area in New Zealand.
