An epic and gritty piece of historical fiction tracking the brutal 12th-century English civil war between the supporters of Empress Matilda and Stephen of Blois. Known as "The Anarchy," Shelby brings this chaotic era to life with a focus on Brien Fitz Count and the siege of Wallingford Castle. It is a brilliant, action-packed narrative of royal intrigue, changing allegiances, and fractured loyalties perfect for fans of Bernard Cornwell or Conn Iggulden.
