The illustrations are wonderful and add greatly to the book's appeal. Written by New Zealand's late great historian, Michael King, a lapsed Catholic at least when the book was published; it is interesting to read his personal accounts and impressions of the Church after Vatican II, as he closes this excellent book with the advent of this Council and its immediate aftermath.
