George Begg's racing life & restorations. Motorcycle racer, car designer and a legendary figure in New Zealand motorsport, George Begg died in 2007. He competed in Europe on two wheels in the mid-1950s but returned home following a fatal accident involving friend and travelling companion Bob Cook. In the early 60s, Begg switched to cars, entering a BSA-powered single-seater in hillclimb events, this toe-in-the-water exercise leading to a Chevy V8-engined sports-racer and a series of F5000/Tasman cars. He was also employed by Bruce McLaren as an engineer/mechanic. Begg returned to his first love of motorcycles in 1976.
