It describes local natural history, the geology that gave rise to the gold and scheelite mining industries, and outlines the town's history. Two chapters are devoted to detailed descriptions of walks around Arrowtown's historic buildings and in the tussock-covered hills and gullies north of the town. The book is illustrated with numerous historical and contemporary photographs, as well as maps.

About the Author Julia Bradshaw is a researcher and writer who lives on the West Coast near Kokatahi. She has worked in museums for twelve years and is currently employed at Shantytown, near Greymouth.
