Chambers's Journal of Popular Literature, Science and Arts. Fifth Series, Vol. XII [1895 Bound Annual].

Publisher:
W. & R. Chambers, London and Edinburgh, 1895.

Bound in publisher's decorative hardcover cloth with bright gilt titles to the spine. A firm, tight binding, though showing general shelf wear including rubbing, bumping, compression, and a small amount of chipping to the spine ends. There is a split to the paper at the front internal hinge, but the mesh/binding underneath remains completely firm and secure. No previous owner inscriptions. Light occasional creasing, tanning, and foxing throughout. Approximately 12 pages feature small brown staining where natural botanical leaves were previously pressed within the book, and one page features a tiny hole affecting a few letters of text, otherwise very good.

832 pages, illustrated with full-page plates and engravings.

The complete weekly runs for the full year of 1895. A fascinating, massive Victorian compendium reflecting late 19th-century advancements in global science, engineering, and the arts. Includes historical essays, poetry, domestic articles, and short serialized fiction of the era.
