Facsimile reprint of the 1847 Edition by Thomas M'Lean of London. 

Has a loose leaf that contains the caption text for plate 58, which was missing from the original printings and was issued separately (on request), ONLY to the original purchasers of the book. 
Also has the publisher's letter, dated Dec 1966, explaining how the caption text on the back of the page facing plate 58 was omitted in all copies.

Maroon, orange, green and grey marbled cloth on boards. Maroon half-leather & gilt. Spine has six raised ribs with bright gilt titles. Gilt to top edge of pages. Marbled end-papers. 
All 60 full page colour plates are present and in very good condition.

Binding firm, minor rubbing and shelf-wear, both bottom corners are bumped, small dent to front and back cover, no inscriptions, plate 33 and its caption pages has a scratch in top margin, occasional light creasing and minor marks, last few pages have some tiny dents to internal margin, otherwise very good. loose leaf has a little chipping to edge.
Elephant folio approx 55 x 37 x 5 cm.
